Happy New Year

Can't believe another year's gone!

Can't believe it's 2010! I would have thought we'd all be living like the Jetsons by now.

But the truth is, every new year is filled with possibilities. Filled with chances, opportunities and 365 brand new blank slates, just waiting for us to fill them.

So let's take advantage. Let's all make this the best year ever. Forget resolutions--we never keep them anyway. Let's just face each day as it comes and decide every morning to make it the best day ever.

I wish you all joy, love, peace--and of course, great books!

After..........

Yep, still recovering from the big holiday bash!

Hope you all had a fabulous Christmas--or whatever other holiday you were celebrating!

Can't believe the year's almost over. 2010. Sounds weird, yes?

So what're your plans? Just thinking about putting your feet up and relaxing?

That sounds really good to me!

Chrsitmas Eve.......

The hurrying is done. The presents are wrapped. Cookies are on trays and the Christmas tree is shining.

On Christmas Eve, I wish you all the best of everything.

Whatever holiday you're celebrating, may you spend it with good friends, family and the spirit of peace.

California Christmas....

Just another shot of a California Christmas!
Hope you're all caught up with the shopping and baking and wrapping.
And hope you all take a minute to put your feet up and read a little.
Be kind to yourself!

Christmas in California......

Christmas in California, and you can't forget about Disneyland! The Magic Kingdom goes all out at this time of year....toys on parade, Christmas lights and ornaments on every building and a giant Christmas tree on Main street.

California Christmas..........

In my quest to keep busy while the first batch of cookies are baking....

Here are a couple of pictures from the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. This year is the 101st parade for Newport. On the final day of the parade, there's a huge fireworks display centered out by the pier and that's REALLY impressive, reflecting on waters of the bay....

Christmas in California........

Over the next week or so, thought I'd post some pictures of Christmas in California!

We don't have snow, but we have creativity!

This picture is of Christmas lights on the canals in Naples. Naples is near Long Beach, CA and they have a GREAT light show every year......

You can walk up and down the canals looking at some of the most gorgeous homes completely decorated for the holidays!

History Day.......

Would YOU let this man tell your fortune?? Not me, thanks. He looks like a whacked out serial killer...BUT, it's Nostradamus. He was born today in 1503 and wrote 10 books of prophecies that some people claim have actually predicted the future......I'm not so sure. I've read him and seems to me you can interpret what he said a zillion different ways. But let's hear it for a guy who managed to find a bit of immortality!

1798, David Wilkinson of Rhode Island patented the nut and bolt machine--oh and the screw, too. (Figures a man would find a way to patent a screw)

1819, Alabama was welcomed into the Union. Now lets all sing a chorus of Sweet Home Alabama to celebrate!

1902, the Silverton set sail from San Francisco on its trip to lay the first telephone cable between San Francisco and Hawaii

1911, after several unsuccessful expeditions to find the South Pole, Roald Amundsen and four companions made the discovery today. (Hmm. Wouldn't walking South do that for you? Or is it North?)

1944 Elizabeth Taylor starred in the movie National Velvet--a girl and her horse.

1953, a 19 year old Sandy Koufax was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers

1968 Marvin Gaye was number one on the charts with I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE--(and now we're all humming it!)

1996, the disabled freighter Bright Field rammed a crowded New Orleans riverfront mall. Thanks to the quick thinking of the ship's pilot, no one was killed.

Okay guys....let me have it! What have you got?

History Day.....

Dec. 7th. The anniversary of the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. In 1941, it was a quiet Sunday morning-until Hell happened. In terrifying moments, thousands were killed, the U.S. Pacific fleet was crippled and the United States was thrown into the war in the Pacific.

The rusting remains of the Arizona, where 1100 men are intombed forever, are still visible in the waters of the harbor.

1787, Delaware, the First State, was the first to ratify the US Constitution and the first state to be admitted into the Union.

1842, the New York Philharmonic gave its first public concert

1926, the household refrigerator, operating on gas, was patented. Guess who held the patent? Electrolux. Yep. A vacuum cleaner company. Who knew?

1957, singer Pat Boone was at the top of the charts with APRIL LOVE

1995, the US spacecraft Galileo, arrived at Jupiter and fired its main engine for 49 minutes to attain a successful orbit. Then Galileo sent a probe into the largest planet, giving us information on it for the first time.

That's what I found...come on people, tell me what you've got!
